Located in the heart of the beautiful Catskill Mountains of New York State, Empire State Railway Museum is dedicated to bringing alive the history of the railroads, their people and the towns they served, to the residents and visitors of the Catskills and the greater Hudson Valley.

Established in 1960, the museum is open to the public weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through October.

The Empire State Railway Museum is located in Phoenicia Station, which was originally built to serve the customers of the Ulster & Delaware Railroad, connecting the Catskills with the Hudson Valley. It served as a passenger station until the last regularly scheduled train in 1954, by that time operated by the New York Central Railroad. Dormant and forlorn, the station was purchased in 1985 and rebuilt by the community, becoming the new home of the Empire State Railway Museum.

Here is a grand vision for the future that would put local railroad service back on the map.
