Pacama Handcrafted Furniture is a design studio that specializes in handcrafted furniture. Designs are aesthetically unified through the use of solid northeastern timber, clean lines, and balanced proportions.
The vision for each design is realized through refinement and simplicity in form, and complemented by the inherent character and beauty of the material.
The Woodstock storefront at 69 Tinker Street opened in june of 2014. It operates as a showroom and retail space. In addition to the furniture produced by Pacama, the store also features work by other like-minded artisans and designers working with various materials. The products are carefully curated to offer a thematic yet eclectic blend of functional handmade goods of the highest quality.
Founder Cedric Martin
Born and raised in Lancaster County, PA, his Mennonite heritage is manifested by his reverence for tradition and subdued understated details, as well as his understanding of how the physical environment is a catalyst for transcendent experiences. In Lancaster, he learned fine woodworking and built his first pieces of furniture while still in high school.
After graduating from college with a degree in sociology, Cedric returned to working with wood in his mid-twenties by carving utensils and building furniture for a cafe and record store he was running in Brooklyn. He then studied at both the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Maine and the North Bennett Street School in Boston before going to work for a high-end custom cabinet shop. During this time, Cedric consistently worked on honing his own design skills and methods of production, creating countless prototypes and one-offs until a unique aesthetic began to emerge from his work. The result is a furniture collection born from organic creative growth and fostered by hands-on experimentation.
