The Catskill Mountain Railroad Scenic Train offers a delightful hour and thirty-minute round trip between Phoenicia and Cold Brook station (Boiceville). You will travel alongside the picturesque Esopus Creek, renowned for its scenic beauty and exceptional fishing opportunities.

Keep your eyes peeled for bald eagles, great blue herons, hawks, deer, and other wildlife that may appear along the creek’s banks. Mount Tremper surrounds the stunning Esopus Valley to the north and Mount Pleasant and Romer Mountain to the south, forming a breathtaking view.

The Kingston City Shuttle

The last passenger train that went from Kingston to Oneonta was in 1954. In 2008, a group of volunteers rebuilt and reopened the first track sections in Kingston’s downtown area. They also introduced the Kingston City Shuttle. The volunteers reconstructed nearly two miles of track through the historic city of Kingston to cross the Esopus River and climb Mount Hurley to reach the Ashokan reservoir. The Kingston City Shuttle operates only on Saturdays from July through October, and exceptional winter holiday service is available through December. The ride takes 45 minutes and follows the same route travelers have used since the 1860s to access the Catskills by rail. The Kingston City Shuttle is part of a long-term plan to reopen the railroad to Ashokan and Phoenicia.
