Flotsam is a vibrant woman-owned, independent woodworking shop nestled along State Rte 55 in Napanoch, NY. Founded by passionate artisan Amy Biddle, the business delights in creating eco-friendly, handcrafted pieces crafted entirely from locally sourced, salvaged wood.
The business was passionately founded to divert usable materials from landfills. Instead of relying on newly logged timber, Flotsam crafts its products from discarded street furniture and sidewalk finds, construction and demolition leftovers, scraps collected from local Hudson Valley woodworking shops, and generous gifts from neighbors and community members.
Flotsam divides its production between unique everyday home goods and personalized commission projects. The online store features small-batch kitchen tools such as stirring spoons, tasting spoons, spatulas, chopsticks, dough scrapers, herb strippers, and American spurtles. Each piece is handcrafted and finished with a resilient, food-safe coating made from natural tung oil, citrus, beeswax, and mineral oil.
Biddle also works with clients to create custom furniture, turning special wood pieces—like live-edge walnut scraps or old baby gates—into contemporary-industrial side tables, tailored kitchen shelves, and picture frames.
Since Flotsam is operated by a single person from a private home studio, it does not follow standard retail hours. For online shopping, you can view available kitchenware and make purchases through the Flotsam Made Official Website or the FlotsamMade Etsy Shop. To discuss a custom furniture piece, please schedule an appointment online in advance.
From beautifully unique kitchen utensils to eye-catching custom furniture pieces, every creation breathes vibrant new life into forgotten timber.
