Carolyn Duke and her family moved to Sullivan County after exchanging their loft at Broadway and Houston for a studio complex in two barns, providing ample space for everyone in the family to pursue their creative passions. For Carolyn, that passion is pottery.
She primarily works with pinch pots, drawing inspiration from the patterns and rhythms of nature. Carolyn is attracted to simplicity in form, believing that beauty can be captured in a single gesture. Despite their simple design, each pot embodies a remarkable amount of energy. Each pot is unique, making it a delightful experience to find the perfect one.
Duke Pottery includes an art gallery and gift shop that showcases the work of photographer Dana Duke and chairmaker Peter Galbert. In addition to pottery, visitors can find a variety of items, including jewelry, rustic furniture, paintings, quilts, aromatherapy pillows, scarves, pastels, books, CDs, cards, wool, and maple syrup. A recording studio called Big Twig is also located on the premises.
