Sullivan County has been a popular vacation destination since the 19th century, offering outdoor activities like mountain climbing and boating, as well as attractions such as Monticello Raceway. Most tourism occurs in summer. From the 1920s to the 1970s, it hosted numerous Borscht Belt resorts with golf, social events, and entertainers, and was also the site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival.
