Mohawk Hudson Humane Society
Founded in 1887, the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS) is the oldest and largest animal protection organization in New York’s Capital Region, serving Albany, Rensselaer and surrounding counties. In addition to providing shelter and care for stray, abused and unwanted animals, we provide an ever-increasing array of services for animals and those who care for them.

Orange Street Cats
Orange Street Cats helps cats without a human advocate. We take senior cats who find themselves homeless after their human passes away; orphaned kittens requiring intense care; injured cats needing surgery; and cats with FIV and FeLV. In short, those cats that few other rescues will assist. We believe that we should focus on the cat in front of us. That means we often go to great lengths to give a cat a chance at happily ever after.

Serves Boston Terriers in need. Most dogs in foster care for placement are adolescent to adult dogs in need of re-homing. All of our rescue dogs are fostered and evaluated for a 2 week minimum to allow us to assess their personality and provide them with basic foundation skills – House/Crate training, basic manners.

Animal Farm Foundation
Current AFF programs include our Old Friends program, an onsite and foster-based program giving senior dogs in shelters across the country an opportunity to live out their lives in a loving home, as well as Family Pantry partnerships, which recognize pets as family and, especially during tough times, provide a way to help pets stay with their families.

Putnam AdvoCATS, Inc. is an all-volunteer, non-profit, charitable 501(c)3 organization working to help stray and feral cats in Putnam County, NY. We practice Trap-Neuter-Return which involves trapping unsterilized cats living in a colony, having them spayed/neutered, vaccinated against rabies, marked for identification, and returned to their original location.

Putnam Service Dogs
Putnam Service Dogs adopts carefully chosen dogs from rescue groups – dogs in cages, without homes, to train as our service dogs. Our service dogs, and follow-up training, are free to their recipients.


Rensselaer County Animal Rescue and Adoption


Out of the Pits
Out of the Pits is a not for profit organization that educates the public about the true nature of the American Pit Bull Terrier. Efforts are aimed at restoring the breed to its former position of esteem in the hearts and minds of people everywhere. We visit dozens of schools with our certified therapy Pit Bulls to teach humane education throughout the New York Capital District, as well as nearby Massachusetts and Connecticut. We are also a rescue organization. Since our inception, we have successfully rehomed over 3,000 dogs, and helped many more stay in their homes.

Operation Snip
Operation Snip is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization who work to reduce the overpopulation of feral cats through the humane method Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). Homes For Orphaned Pets Exist Hope
Homes for Orphaned Pets Exist (H.O.P.E.) is a not-for-profit organization of animal lovers from Saratoga and surrounding counties who are dedicated to assisting animals whose owners have passed away or can no longer keep them.
