L’Impatience Ceramics is an innovative design studio and vibrant community space located in Kingston, New York. It specializes in creating small-batch collections of handcrafted, minimalist ceramic objects and fine dinnerware, blending artistic expression with practical use. The studio was founded by a talented husband-and-wife team, Jerome and Bénédicte Leclere, who are artistically driven and bring unique perspectives from their diverse backgrounds as former advertising professionals and French-born artists.

At the heart of L’Impatience’s philosophy is a commitment to balancing artistry and functionality. The studio emphasizes honesty in materials, showcasing the natural beauty of their raw materials and crafting simple, pure forms that stand the test of time. Their aesthetic features minimalist elegance and timeless appeal, often highlighting the natural beauty of unglazed clay surfaces.

L’Impatience’s diverse product lineup includes exquisite fine dinnerware sets, such as plates and bowls designed for daily use and special occasions. They also produce sculptural home objects like vases and aroma burners that serve both decorative and functional purposes. The studio offers custom pieces and collaborates on special projects, including custom-designed dinnerware for upscale hotels and well-known restaurants. Among their most intriguing and innovative items are high-fidelity ceramic speakers— a unique fusion of natural materials and refined sound technology— demonstrating their dedication to merging form and function in extraordinary ways.

Besides their design activities, the Lecleres operate a community ceramics studio called L’Atelier, meaning “the workshop” in French. Situated in the historic Fuller Building in Kingston, L’Atelier provides:

• Classes and workshops catering to all skill levels, from beginner sessions like “Intro to Pottery Wheel” to advanced classes in hand-building and glazing.
• Studio access and drop-in passes for experienced ceramicists seeking independent workspace.
• Private events such as team-building activities and parties.
• A fully equipped, naturally lit space with pottery wheels, hand-building zones, and kilns.

The name “L’Impatience” is an ironic nod to the slow, mindful process of pottery—a practice they adopted to escape their previous fast-paced careers. Their goal is to foster a supportive, creative environment where individuals can slow down and engage deeply with the process of making by hand.
