CPW Summer Scrapbook Workshop
Thursday Jul/25/2024 @ 12:30 pm - 2:30 pmFree Event
CPW is working with documentary artist Brenda Ann Kenneally in bringing her trauma-informed scrapbooking workshop to Kingston. She has taken this workshop into various at-risk communities throughout NY, using the tools of personal storytelling to heal, empower, and inspire kids, teens, and young adults as they work together to process complex feelings and life experiences. The goal of the workshop is for each student to come away with new tools for self expression, and a book about their lives from their own perspectives. The class will culminate in a showcase of student work at CPW for their friends, family, and faculty to see.
More about Brenda Ann Kenneally:
Brenda Ann Kenneally is a multi-media documentary maker, Guggenheim Fellow, and activist whose visceral, long-form projects have broadened the humanistic scope of the documentary form. A frequent contributor to The New York Times Magazine, Kenneally has won several major awards, including the The W. Eugene Smith Award for Humanistic Photography, a Soros Criminal Justice Fellowship, The Mother Jones Documentary Photography Award, the World Press Photo Award, a NYFA Grant, the Best of Photojournalism Award by the National Press Photographers Association, and several grants from New York State Council for The Arts.
Kenneally founded A Little Creative Class in 2018 to address the social, and economic obstacles that deter low-income youth from participation in the idea-based, creative economy. Examples of past workshops can be found here.
