Meet the Women of Revolutionary Westchester
Free Event
Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site
Saturday, Jun/28/2025 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Join us for a unique outdoor living history family day. Engage with the women of revolutionary Westchester, from those carrying out daily tasks such as spinning, weaving, and cooking, to camp followers who cared for troops with herbal remedies, and women who disguised themselves to fight in the military. In the outdoor tent, witness performances by Peggy Shippen, spouse of the infamous Benedict Arnold, affluent loyalist Mary Philipse, an enslaved woman named Liss who gained her freedom, and Phoebe Ward, a mother torn between two armies. Enjoy History At Play’s acclaimed performance, A Revolution of Her Own!, which delves into the life of Continental soldier Deborah Sampson. Learn more about local cultural and heritage organizations that highlight the diverse histories of women connected to the revolutionary Westchester County. Relish live period music, dancing, hands-on 18th-century crafts and demonstrations, period games, and more while you mingle and interact with the costumed performers.
