Steepletop’s September 13 &14 Open Days to Feature Musician Katie Barbato plus Customized Poems by Typewriter Poet Jess Bowe

The Millay Society at Steepletop is delighted to announce the fourth of five Open Day weekends celebrating the centennial of the property’s purchase by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Edna St. Vincent Millay and her husband Eugen Boissevain. Highlighting the September 13-14 weekend will be a performance of Millay’s poems set to music by singer/songwriter Katie Barbato on Saturday at 2 pm. On Sunday, Typewriter Poet Jess Bowe will create bespoke typewriter poetry in Millay’s writing cabin from 11 am to 4 pm. On Saturday at 10:30 am and on Sunday at 1:30 pm, Millay Society Trustee Lora Woodward will offer a 60-minute guided walk through the grounds.

Throughout the weekend, guests may wander through Millay’s gardens, explore the Poetry Trail that leads to the Millay family gravesites, and bring a picnic to enjoy on the grounds. Tickets for 60-minute House Tours are available for $25 on each day; purchasing in advance is strongly encouraged. Grounds & Picnic passes, which allow visitors to walk and explore the 200-acre property, are available for $10 per person per day, either in advance or on-site. All visitors are welcome to attend the special events at no additional charge.

The Steepletop gift shop will be open, and the Jackson Gallery in the Tamarack Visitors Center will feature a new exhibition: “Edna St. Vincent Millay: Life at Steepletop 1925-1950,” which presents artifacts from Millay’s 25 years at Steepletop.

The final Open Days of 2025 will take place on October 11 and 12.
