The Haunted Shanley Hotel, a reminder from the past, stands silently in the town of Napanock, New York. Over the years, its haunted reputation has grown—not only for its striking architecture and eerie atmosphere but also for its strange ties to a mysterious and colorful history of ghostly visitors.

Among these spectral figures were notorious souls who once haunted the hotel’s dark, winding corridors, along with some shadowy figures known to frequent the nearby Gentleman’s Club and Bordello. Rumors whisper that some of these apparitions have never truly left; their restless spirits are said to still wander the halls, lurking in the shadows, silently awaiting those who dare to enter or the return of those they once tormented.

In 1845, a man named Thomas Ritch laid the first stones of what would become a sinister establishment in the area. Constructed with nails and mortar, he built Ritch’s Hotel on Main Street, initiating a dark chapter in the region’s history. At that time, Napanock was a remote yet mysterious refuge, especially for city dwellers seeking escape from urban chaos. The hotel was renowned for its haunting beauty, with a lively pub, gambling rooms, and a clandestine Gentleman’s Club that harbored dark secrets—including a bordello, a place of pleasure shadowed by whispers of deceit and danger.
