Horses For a Change is a compassionate organization that provides a safe and nurturing sanctuary for abandoned horses. These horses are given the chance to be re-educated and trained as school and show horses, serving a dual purpose—helping to rehabilitate and prepare the horses for future work while also offering valuable therapeutic services. The organization specializes in equine-assisted therapy, targeting individuals on the autism spectrum as well as children, adolescents, and adults facing mental health challenges. Through this therapy, clients can experience emotional growth and healing facilitated by interactions with these gentle, trusted horses.
Beyond therapeutic programs, Horses For a Change actively empowers the community by giving disadvantaged youth opportunities to learn about horse care, grooming, and riding. These experiences aim to foster essential qualities, including empathy, leadership, responsibility, and a deeper appreciation for nature and the environment. The organization also supports and nurtures dedicated riders interested in pursuing dressage, providing training, mentorship, and a supportive community to help them excel in this elegant and demanding sport.
Horses For a Change Programs
Private Lessons
Private lessons are centered on helping you reach your goals, whether that’s achieving a specific skill, refining your existing skills, competing competitively, or simply relieving stress.
Competitive Riding
If you’re already an advanced rider, you might be working towards moving up in competition or practicing advanced movements like half pass, canter pirouettes, and tempi changes. You will have the opportunity to show in both schooling and rated shows, including Dressage 4 Kids.
Saddle Club After-School Program
The Saddle Club is a group riding after-school program that provides an excellent and affordable introduction to horseback riding for young riders ages 6 to 12.
Therapeutic Riding
Whether you’re still a kid or fully grown, if you’re suffering from a mental, physical, or developmental disability, there is no other fun and therapeutic activity that will benefit you in such a holistic way.
Youth Riding Weeks
Does your son or daughter love horses? Why not nurture that love? We offer intensive riding weeks for students under 18 at all experience levels—not just for summer but also for spring and winter breaks.
Scholarships
To make lessons, including Summer Riding Weeks and the Saddle Club program, accessible to as many people as possible, they offer need-based scholarships.
