The Humane Society of Walden is a no-kill, 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing a safe refuge for stray and abandoned cats and dogs. It serves the communities of Montgomery, Walden, Maybrook, Crawford, Wawarsing, Shawangunk, and Mamakating, while also accepting pets in need from across the country.
The shelter houses many wonderful dogs and cats of various breeds, ages, and sizes. Visitors are encouraged to stop by and meet potential companions.
The Humane Society believes every animal deserves humane treatment, including proper care, respect, and safe shelter. Its main goal is to provide essential care and find loving, permanent homes for the animals that arrive.
Each year, millions of animals are euthanized due to a lack of available homes. Recent statistics show that only 1 in 10 dogs and 1 in 12 cats born will find a permanent home, and around 800 cats and dogs are euthanized every hour across the United States.
The organization promotes spaying and neutering and advocates adoption as the primary option when choosing a pet.
