The Catskill Mountainkeeper mission is to protect our region’s wild lands and natural resources, support smart development to sustainably grow our economy, nurture healthy communities, and accelerate the transition to a 100% clean energy future in New York and beyond.

Established in 2006, Catskill Mountainkeeper is the strongest advocate for the Catskill region. Working with a network of concerned citizens and strategic partners, Mountainkeeper’s programs protect and promote our region’s extraordinary natural heritage, while promoting smart development that supports local communities and grows our economy in a sustainable way.

Catskill Mountainkeeper Programs

CLIMATE ACTION & CLIMATE JUSTICE
Catskill Mountainkeeper works effectively at both the local and state levels to identify and deliver the bold solutions we need to combat the worst impacts of the climate crisis and speed our transition to a 100% renewable energy future.

PROTECTING POLLINATORS
Bees, butterflies, birds and other pollinators are threatened because of neonicotinoids, habitat loss, and declining water quality and they need our help. Explore our pages to learn why pollinators matter, and take action: check out our toolkit for what you can do as an individual and what your community can do to save our pollinators and ultimately the planet!

PARKS & WILDLANDS
Mountainkeeper is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the Catskill Park and Forest Preserves, the crown jewel of our region and one of the largest and most ecologically diverse natural areas in the East.

RENEWABLE NY
Mountainkeeper’s RenewableNY program is helping transform the state’s energy landscape by demonstrating that a clean and prosperous future built around efficiency and renewables is well within reach. Our on-the-ground programs, HeatSmart Ulster•Sullivan and the Solar Outreach Initiative have been leading the way in implementing climate and clean energy solutions.

FARMING & FOOD
Mountainkeeper building a more vibrant and sustainable regional food system that feeds our local communities, supports our farmers, and builds our food-related economy — the region’s second largest industry.

EXTREME ENERGY
Relatively new technologies to extract fossil fuels are making it possible to obtain these fuels from places and sources that were previously inaccessible.

CATSKILL PARK COALITION
The Catskill Park Coalition is an alliance of like-minded groups committed to working together to broaden public appreciation for the Catskill Park and seek additional resources to enhance, maintain, and make available to the public the extraordinary opportunities the Park and its surroundings offer and can offer.
